How to show hidden files in Finder, Mac OS X?
Do you know Mac has some files hidden? It hides them because as they are important system files which are required to run operating system in a proper manner but sometimes we may require those hidden files. To solve this problem Apple has a way to show their hidden files to the end user. Let’s go step by step to view hidden files in Mac.
- Just type below commands in your terminal in order to view hidden files
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
What happening exactly in the above command?
When you just enter 'defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE' into your terminal it just tells the finder to display all files including hidden files, regardless of how the hidden flag is set. After entering the second line "killall Finder" it just stops and restarts the finder such that changes take effect. Does not worry you find your desktop disappear and reappear as and when you execute this command.
Hide them back again:- In order to hide them back it's as easy as above just little change make TRUE to FALSE in the above command that's it now you can hide them back again and carry on with your work.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
All the hidden files back to their original position without any problem. I hope this MAC Tip is been useful to you and will come back with many more like this.
